OCCUPY

From the Director
Dear Friend,
BYM is pleased to announce the official launching of our major renovation and remodeling project. Internally and in a few newsletters we have referred to it as PHASE II. However the scope of the project is so important and the completion of it so essential we have realized it is more than just a single, simple phase. This portion of funding, construction and occupancy is absolutely paramount to the future goals of the Baptist Youth Mission.
Since the initial meetings with the State Fire Marshall’s team, Phase II’s primary objective was certifi ed occupancy of all portions of the building. The initial phase allowed only one housing unit and limited offi ce space. The completion of this second phase of compliance will assure full occupancy. For this reason it has been officially named the “Occupy Till I Come Campaign”. The phrase comes from a passage in one of the Lord’s parables in Luke chapter 19 concerning stewardship. A certain nobleman left some great responsibilities in the hands of his servants until his return in the future. He told to them “occupy” or carry on the necessary business that would ensure his success upon return.
This theme was chosen because it fi ts the Master’s plan for BYM. Our goal is to be busy about “our Father’sbusiness”. Excitement and exhilaration characterize this new challenge to the ministry. What could be better? ...for this is a campaign that is all about gathering and uniting every available resource for the purpose of using the facilities God has given us for the greatest impact on eternity!
Nuts and Bolts- This campaign has a couple of unique features essential to its success. Here is the background. The State Fire Marshall’s team is requiring a sprinkler and life safety system (exit signs, smoke detectors etc...) throughout the building. Without these there will be no full occupancy. However, bringing the building to this level of compliance is a very costly component of the master renovation plan. Other elements of the renovation such as electrical, heat and plumbing systems are less expensive and easier to do in stages. The sprinklers/life safety system must be done all at once. Because of these two stages of renovation, the funding portion of Occupy Campaign has been designed into two distinct sections. We are needing funding immediately for some of the on-going projects (see Backgrounder’s Current Project insert), yet at the same time we have opened a savings account for the large costs related to the Compliancy Fund.
I urge you to take time to read more about this vital project. This newsletter, our individual missionaries’ newsletters and our web site (www.bym.org) off er more insight and details on BYM’s unique ministry. I also urge you to get involved. Whether it is volunteering for a few days, or contributing fi nancially, your involvement will be appreciated and will count for eternity.
Serving the Lord with Gladness,
Mike Holmes

The Building Comes to Life!

The East Tower houses administrative offices on the first floor and portions of Heart and Home Residential Discipleship ministry on the second and third.

There are beginning to be signs of life in a rundown old hotel in Sinclair, Wyoming! The Parco Inn became the National Headquarters for Baptist Youth Mission in May of 2003. In June, a touring choir from Cornerstone Bible Institute (Hot Springs, SD) stopped by to see the new property. The group of approximately 15 young adults assembled in the room formerly known as the Ballroom and gave an impromptu concert for our volunteer workers. It was a beautiful transformation of a room once used to fan the flames of romance but is now to be used to set hearts aflame for Him. When God gets involved things change!
God is in the transformation business. How many time have we seen Him miraculously change a drunkard into a respectable father, a wayward pregnant girl into a godly mother or a rebellious teen into a Gospel preacher? When things are submitted to God, He gets the glory! But it is not limited to the souls of men. God changed the land of Cannan from a place of pagan worship to a place for His people to dwell. He transformed the trunks and limbs of gopher wood trees into the Ark of the Covenant and he used badger skins, and goat hair to make a tabernacle in the wilderness! How wonderful it is when He is in charge. Please pray for continued transformation and new life at the Parco Inn. |

Think Globally - Give Locally
|
A pattern for your philanthropy would be Local Causes, Passioned Individuals, and Effective Programs.
If you are burdened for the young people of our country, we urge you to give locally. We believe God has put you where you are by His providence to help your local programs. If you are considering using your funds in a philanthropic way, please give to your own local church or area programs.
Secondly, give to passioned individuals. The Spirit of God uses many tools in His work, but none so often or so effectively as the individual. Verse after verse and story after story confi rm God’s use of dedicated, Spirit-empowered individuals and families. BYM has a variety of folks that fi t the bill. Please consider making a sustaining and crucial investment in one of our missionary’s lives.
Finally, support programs that make a difference. Many folks give to animal shelters, environmental causes and even health initiatives, but wise stewards choose eternal causes for their charitable giving. A wise man once said, “Commit your life to what will count the most for eternity.” The same can be said for your money. What better could one do than invest in eternity? |
