Testimony of Tim Tutton

I was saved October 18, 1963 at First Baptist Church of Cherry Creek, New York.  I heard the Gospel many times but had never personally received salvation.  On that night I  attended an evangelistic meeting and during the message on Hell, I made a decision that I would respond at the invitation and trust the Lord.  The preacher, Reuben Martin, took me into the Bell Room and we knelt beside some cane-bottom chairs, he counseled me and I received the Christ as my Saviour.

Christian Education and Experience

After a battle with the Lord about where to attend college, I surrendered to go to Bob Jones University.  During the first semester at Phil Shuler revival, God called me to preach the Gospel.  I changed my major to Bible and graduated with a BA in Bible in 1971. In 1995 I completed a Master of Ministry degree. During the years at BJU, I was very involved in Extension Ministries.  My first experience working with children was teaching a group of boys in a Training Union class at a small Baptist Church in East Flat Rock, NC.  God give me opportunity to preach in jail (I was not an inmate), start a Saturday night youth rally (with a guy from my home church), serve in a summer ministry in Nova Scotia, Canada, and travel one summer with Neighborhood Bible Time.

After graduating I continued my education in Graduate School, then I entered the field of Christian Education.  I really felt God directing me to full-time children’s ministry, but I didn’t know how to do that and pay my bills.   While working as a teacher and then as an administrator, I was able to work with kids on weekends in bus ministry, Sunday School, Children’s Church, and during the summer doing VBS programs and speaking in camps.

In the Spring of 1984, Margaret and I made the decision to leave Christian Education and begin ministry full-time in the field of child evangelism.  We have served with two other youth ministries and now we serve with Baptist Youth Mission as a missionary/evangelist.  God has given me opportunity to preach, minister to children and train adults in children’s ministry in 32 states.  One unique aspect of our desire to reach children with the Gospel is the evangelistic tool we call the Video Bus.  The bus can be used in a variety of settings and is designed like a mobile chapel.
